Glaucoma Treatment
Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that damage the optic nerve, often due to elevated pressure inside the eye. It is one of the leading causes of blindness, but early detection and treatment can prevent significant vision loss.
Types of Glaucoma
- Open-angle glaucoma — The most common type; develops slowly with no early symptoms
- Angle-closure glaucoma — A more acute form that can cause sudden, severe symptoms
- Normal-tension glaucoma — Optic nerve damage occurs even with normal eye pressure
Treatment Options
Our ophthalmologists create individualized treatment plans that may include:
- Eye drops — The most common first-line treatment to lower eye pressure
- Laser therapy — Selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) to improve fluid drainage
- Surgery — Trabeculectomy or drainage device implantation for advanced cases
Regular Monitoring
Glaucoma requires lifelong monitoring. We perform regular visual field tests, optical coherence tomography (OCT), and tonometry to track your condition and adjust treatment as needed.
